The ABC’s of Student Loan Debt

Student Loan debt is all over the news and for good reason. Student loan debt is now the largest area of consumer debt with over ONE TRILLION owed. Way more than credit card debt. President Obama came out with the Student Loan Bill of Rights that will provide some small measure of relief. Half of the folks that I meet with on a daily basis are burdened with heavy student loan debt, mostly in deferment or in default and neither is a good place to be. But, you have options and here is just one:

IBR – Income Based Repayment

This is a very important term to remember!

IBR was first introduced in 2009 and it seems that it’s a secret that no one wants you to know about. The IBR is a great program that bases your payments on your income. With IBR, monthly payments are based on 15% of disposable income with payments as low as ZERO. It also comes with forgiveness if any of your loan balances are not paid off after as little as 10 years. We just helped a client who was in a forbearance for the past three years, consolidate his federal loans and obtain a ZERO payment IBR AND his balance of some $75,000 will be forgiven in 10 years. He is now on the right track but unfortunately, he wasted three years in a forbearance! Don’t put your head in the sand, deal with this like you dealt with your other debt by calling or emailing us NOW.

It’s easy!!  All you need is your NDSL log in information and we can take it from there. Call the Florida Consumer Rights Lawyer Robert L. Peters today to get your student loan analysis at 904-421-6907 or email us at [email protected].
